WILD PEACE SANCTUARY
SHILOH
Shiloh was rescued in 2021 from a situation of serious neglect. Kept in a small pen with no companionship, he arrived at the sanctuary with cancer (sarcoids), long split hooves, and a bad case of worms. We know almost nothing about his history, though he would flinch if you moved a hand too quickly near him, indicating there may have been some abuse. Shiloh latched on to Storm straight away who took this shy little one under her wing, showing her strong and protective maternal instincts.
Defensive and untrusting on his arrival, Shiloh's rehab started with our helping him to feel safe being handled, treating him with a herbal dewormer, and teaching him to pick up his feet to prepare him for hoof trimming. The large tumor in the middle of his chest was removed with cryosurgery which uses liquid nitrogen to freeze and destroy the diseased tissue. Shiloh has remained cancer free, and is a happy donkey. A favorite with visitors and gentle with children, he loves to tip his head into your chest for long cuddles.

Shiloh means Gift in Hebrew.
“Our task must be to free ourselves… by widening our
circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures
and the whole of nature and its beauty.”
